Back in 2014, when the iPhone 6 Plus was first released, it felt massive. People joked about needing a handbag just to carry it. Yet here we are, in 2016, and the iPhone 6 Plus has become a seamless part of my life—proof that we adapt quickly to change, especially when it’s wrapped in sleek aluminium and glass.
Using the 6 Plus over the past year has changed the way I think about smartphones. At first, the size felt unwieldy. Trying to text one-handed was almost impossible unless I wanted to risk dropping it. But as I got used to it, I realised how much it offered in return. The larger screen has become a joy to use. Browsing, reading, watching—you don’t realise how much easier these things are until you’ve done them on a bigger display.
One of my favourite things about the iPhone 6 Plus is the camera. It’s not just the quality of the photos (though they’re incredible); it’s the convenience of always having a camera at hand. Whether it’s a beautiful sunset, a quick snap of my coffee, or a moment of silliness with friends, I can capture it effortlessly. And the optical image stabilisation? A game changer.
But there are trade-offs. The size does make it less portable. It doesn’t slip into my pocket as easily, and using it for long stretches can feel a bit cumbersome. Yet, I’ve also noticed that I’m less glued to my phone in public spaces because of its size. Maybe that’s not such a bad thing.
The iPhone 6 Plus feels like a reflection of where smartphones are heading—bigger, more powerful, and increasingly central to how we experience life. It’s no longer just a tool; it’s an extension of how we see, connect, and create.
As I think about the future of smartphones, I wonder: will we eventually carry devices too large to even call phones? Or will the pendulum swing back towards smaller, simpler devices? Either way, the iPhone 6 Plus has shown me the value of embracing change—even when it’s literally a handful.
